Hammer
£1,100
An early 20th century sapphire and diamond transitional ring, the central round mixed cut sapphire measuring 4.5mm diameter, set to a white metal lozenge shaped surround set with old cut diamonds, head 13.5mm x 12.5mm, continuing to diamond set shoulders and plain polished shank, stamped ‘PLAT’, ring size O, weight 3.3gms
More Information
The ring required professional cleaning, and this may effect colour and clarity gradings. There is a flat reflective inclusion to one side of the stone, visible with 10x, but no with the naked eye. No other obvious inclusions visible at 10x. Sapphire does show moderate nibbling to facet edges and general scratching and wear throughout. The diamonds are largely well matched, however the diamond pictured right appears slightly darker - this may be owing to dirt build up, and may change once cleaned. Diamonds appear white and sparkly when viewed face up with the naked eye. Diamonds appear to be SI/VS in clarity, mostly SI. A couple of the diamond show small chips and surface reaching fractures, and general scratching and wear throughout. There are signs of possible break and repair to the gallery, which shows possible solder repair. Gallery shows some denting and minor thinning - see pictures. Shank in good order, no splitting, major thinning, misshaping or signs of repair. General scratching and wear throughout. See additional images.
