Fees

A German sword, 18th century, the 58.5cm single edged curved fullered steel blade with bayonet tip, each side etched with a lion rampant holding a sword and shield with crown above, on one side over an inscription 'Fur Gott und Das Vatterland', the brass hilt with heart shaped guard, thumb loop, knuckle bow, cast wire-effect grip and ball pommel with raised capstan rivet, 73.5cm long over all, lacking scabbard (at fault)

More Information

The blade shows tarnishing and discolouration throughout, including two small areas of dense dark residue of some kind on each side of the blade approximately 8cm up from the hilt. The blade is firmly fixed in the hilt, but there are visible gaps around the fixing, and a build up of what appears to be polish residue. The brass hilt shows tarnishing and the odd small area of discolouration.
