Fees

A George IV sampler dated 1829, worked by Mary Worth aged 10 years, worked in silk threads on a fine linen ground, with a religious verse above a brick house with ancillary wings, sheep grazing to the front of the house with a shepherd and shepherdess and their dog, below sun, moon and stars motifs, further plants and birds surrounding, all within a repeating anthemion design border, 47cm x 37.5cm, later framed and glazed (at fault)

More Information

The sampler is framed under glass and has not been removed for inspection. The piece has been stitched on to a later linen backing, leaving a 2cm (approx) border all round. This border shows discolouration and staining throughout, particularly to the lower corners (when there are also some pinholes on the left), but this does not appear to extend to the original fabric ground. The original fabric ground shows age related darkening with some variation in the level of discolouration throughout, and some slightly stretched areas, but no obvious holes. The colours of the silk work remain distinct, but have faded over time.
