A pair of George II silver sauce boats by William Grundy, London 1755, each of classic form with shaped borders, acanthus capped scrolling handles on three hoof feet, each with inscription to underside reading ‘Rdo Yates paternum inse animum dedit Tho. Milburn. 1756’ each 22cm long, weight of pair 28.02ozt (2)

Good order. No major dents or signs of repair. Both show small splits to the central cuspings (see pictures for illustration) - these are in the same spots on both examples, but no other signs of splitting. Some pitting to the handle and the base of the feet. General scratching and wear consistent with age and use to the exterior and interior. Engraved crest is crisp. Some wear to the hallmarks, particularly to the maker's marks on both examples. Both examples sit flat on a level surface.
