PROVENANCE: From the collection of Raymond Richards M.A. F.S.A. of Gawsworth Hall, thence by descent. The picture is believed to have been acquired by him in the late 1930's, and is identified in his records compiled in 1948. Cleaned by Manchester City Art Gallery approximately 1990.

The paint surface shows fine craquelure throughout. Examination under UV reveals evidence of minor re-touching. The frame is structurally sound but shows age-related cracks to the moulded details and some areas of overpainting to the gilt finish.
