More Information

Please note: The items in this collection do not come with provenance, and we cannot provide an accurate indication of where they originated from. Please refer to our press release on the collection for further information: https://tinyurl.com/2p8e28yb

The trapezophoros shows extensive wear, weathering and abrasion commensurate with age and use. There are areas of loss, particularly on the face of the griffin, which has lost many of it's features. The face, wings and decorative details have lost a considerable amount of definition. The top section (above the head and wings of the griffin) has been repaired/built onto with a later material, which is a different colour to the marble. There is residual adhesive residue around the head and running down the piece. There is a breakage to one of the wings, which has been repaired at a later date with adhesive. Please see additional images for illustration.
