A Victorian silver teapot by Martin, Hall & Co, Sheffield 1861, of globe form on domed circular foot, cast floral knop to hinged cover, c-shaped ebonised ebonised handle, elaborately embossed with fruit and scrolling decoration, cartouche to either side engraved with unicorn crest and motto 'bear and forbear', 18.5cm high, weight 20.30ozt

More Information

Hallmarks to underside of foot, inside of cover and knop.

Overall condition is good. There is a shallow dent to one side on the crest, and some very minor dents around some of the embossed decoration, but no other major dents, splitting, or repair. General scratching and wear to the body, cover and spout. All decoration is crisp and clear. Maker's mark to the knop is quite worn, but to the inside of cover and base is crisp. The handle is quite loose, as both of the pins holding it in place have come slightly loose. There are a couple of chips to the top of the handle, and a few cracks where the handle meets the silver. The lid is quite wobbly at the hinge, but opens smoothly and closes flush.
