Hammer
£5,500
An Indian Matchlock Musket (Toredar), late 18th / early 19th century, with long slender barrel damascened with a silver interlace pattern over the breech, moulded flared muzzle and the pan fitted with decorated pivot cover, wooden stock with slender butt, the latter encased over its length with bone panels incised with darkened segmental lines and clusters of small circles, and fitted with long side-plates of brass retained by rivets on pierced rosette washers, 169cm long
More Information
The barrel shows wear and tarnishing across the surface commensurate with age and handling. Evidence of possible brazed repair to one of the barrel bands. The wooden stock shows wear, scuffs and chips commensurate with age and handling. The decorative bone inlay between the stock and the barrel is largely absent. One of the bone panels on the top surface of the butt shows a loss approximately 1cm long, with a further small loss to the adjoining panel. The other panels show the odd small loss to the edges and open joints between the panels. There is a crack to the panel at the base of the butt. The lower part of the brass surround to the matchlock is absent. The trigger appears to activate the matchlock mechanism.
