The piece has been overpainted several times with paint build-up in open joints and moulded details. The finish shows chips, scuffs and wear (in some cases down to the wood) commensurate with age and use. The side panels show later exposed screws, suggesting the hanging of exterior additions. The interior exposed wood shows some evidence of historic worm activity. Majority of interior is covered with adhesive paper, preventing inspection of the timber. The exterior back panels show some evidence of historic worm activity.
