A selection of seven Victorian and later silver vesta cases, including one by J & R Griffin Ltd, Chester 1920, of rounded rectangular form with vacant cartouche to one side, 43mm x 33mm, another by Jones & Crompton, Birmingham 1906, of rounded rectangular form with engine turned decoration and monogrammed initials to cartouche, 46mm x 39mm, a plain polished example by Horace Woodward & Co Ltd, Birmingham 1908, 51mm x 39mm, an example suspended on a silver coloured chain by Arthur Fenwick, Birmingham 1901, 42mm x 34mm, and a further three examples of assorted dates, makers and sizes, gross weight of group (excluding chain) 4.89ozt (7)

Plain example: Good order, no splits, denting or repair. Moderate scratching and wear to the exterior. cover opens smoothly and closes flush.
Top left: No splits or repairs. Moderate denting, concentrated to the front around the cartouche and cover. Moderate scratching and wear. Cover opens smoothly and closes flush.
Example on chain: Some minor denting/loss to the lip of the cover near the hinge, creating a gap between the cover and case. Some minor denting, moderate scratching and wear. Cover opens smoothly and closes flush (apart from the small hole). Chain is unmarked, but in good order.
Bottom right: some denting/misshaping to the centre on each side of the case. Some minor dents and small splits to the sides/corners. Cover opens smoothly, but does not sit completely flush.
Second from top: Heavily dented. Seam running down the length of the cover, possibly indicating repair. Decoration is heavily worn. Cover opens smoothly, but does not sit completely flush.
Top middle: Good order, some minor denting, scratching and wear. Moderate wear to engraved decoration. No splitting or repair. Cover opens smoothly and closes with a snap.
Smallest example: Moderate denting, scratching and wear. Cover is stiff to open and does not close flush. No splitting or repair.
