The hilt shows an open but apparently secure joint where the knuckle bar meets the hilt. The pommel shows a possible later capstan rivet. All brass areas show wear and tarnishing. The horn grip shows a build up of polish. The scabbard shows a crude repair to the tip.
The naval officer's sword with ivory grip shows wear, tarnishing and pitting to the blade and steel hilt, and wear, staining and cracking to the ivory grip. The grip wiring is also detached in places.
