A rare Russian Foot Officer’s Spontoon, circa 1780/1800, the head formed of a broad leaf-shaped blade etched with the Imperial double eagle surmounted by the Imperial crown of Catherine II, the letters of an abbreviated inscription at the base, the lower portion of scroll outline, the neck fitted with a horizontal bar with recurved tips, and with faceted socket segmented by moulded collars and extending to a pair of long straps: on its original long wooden haft (pitting and patches of surface rust), head length 80cm, overall length 220cm
